About Barrett
Barrett Firearms Manufacturing was founded in 1982 by Ronnie Barrett in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, initially to develop a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .50 BMG for long-range and anti-materiel use. The resulting Model 82, and its refined successor the M107, were adopted by the U.S. military and numerous allied forces, establishing Barrett as the defining name in large-caliber semi-automatic rifles. The company's designs played a major role in popularizing .50 BMG rifles among civilian long-range shooting enthusiasts as well.
Beyond the M82/M107 platform, Barrett expanded into bolt-action precision rifles with the Model 95 and later the MRAD, a modular multi-caliber bolt-action rifle adopted by military and law enforcement units for its ability to switch between calibers by changing the barrel and bolt. Barrett's rifles are generally associated with precision long-range shooting rather than the broad sporting or collecting markets tied to older manufacturers.
