Why Is There a Range?

Two firearms with the same model name can have very different values. Condition, exact variant, caliber, finish, included accessories, modifications and current market demand can all affect what we can pay.

The ranges above are intended to give you a useful starting point. Your actual offer is based on the firearm you submit.

Fair

Usually toward the lower portion of the range.

Good

Generally within the middle of the range.

Excellent

May qualify toward the higher end of the range.

Condition alone does not determine placement within a range. Variant, configuration, demand, modifications and included accessories can also materially affect value.

We buy far more models than we can reasonably list here. Older, discontinued, uncommon and collectible firearms can still have significant value.

About Remington

Remington Arms was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, making it one of the longest continuously operating firearm and ammunition manufacturers in American history. The company produced a wide range of arms across the 19th and 20th centuries, from rolling-block rifles used internationally to double-barrel shotguns and early autoloading designs developed with input from John Browning. Remington's product line grew to include some of the best-selling bolt-action rifles and pump shotguns in American history.

Collectors and hunters most closely associate Remington with the Model 700 bolt-action rifle, introduced in 1962 and used in both sporting and military sniper rifle configurations, and the Model 870 pump shotgun, one of the best-selling shotguns ever produced. Earlier models such as the Model 1100 semi-automatic shotgun and the Model 1911 have also drawn steady collector interest, alongside 19th-century rolling-block rifles.

Remington's corporate history includes several ownership changes and a 2020 bankruptcy that split the company's brands among multiple buyers, which collectors sometimes reference when discussing manufacturing location and era. Because Remington produced firearms across such a long span, dating relies on serial number ranges, proof marks, and model-specific design changes.

Types of Remington firearms

Bolt-action rifles

The Model 700 and its predecessors, widely used for hunting and adapted for military and law-enforcement sniper rifles.

Pump-action shotguns

The Model 870 and earlier pump shotguns, among the most widely produced shotguns in American history.

Semi-automatic shotguns

The Model 1100 and later gas-operated autoloading shotgun lines used for hunting and clay sports.

19th-century rifles

Rolling-block single-shot rifles and early cartridge rifles produced for both military and civilian markets.

Valuation

What affects Remington firearm values

These are the characteristics we assess on the specific firearm in front of us — not a model-number price chart.

  1. Factor 1

    Production era and age

Earlier production runs, particularly pre-1980s Model 700s and Model 870s, are often distinguished from later production by manufacturing details and materials.

  2. Factor 2

    Condition

Bore condition, wood-to-metal fit, and finish wear are assessed relative to the model's age and typical use as a working hunting or sporting firearm.

  3. Factor 3

    Originality

Factory wood stocks, original bluing, and unmodified barrels are weighed against aftermarket stocks, scopes, and refinishing common on well-used hunting rifles.

  4. Factor 4

    Factory configuration and chambering

Barrel length, caliber, sight configuration, and stock style (such as checkered walnut versus synthetic) define specific factory variants.

  5. Factor 5

    Special editions and variants

Limited production runs, specific military contract models, and high-grade trim levels are treated as a distinct category from standard hunting-grade production.

  6. Factor 6

    Documentation

Original boxes, hang tags, and any documentation of military or law-enforcement issue support a Remington firearm's history and configuration.

  7. Factor 7

    Collector demand

Certain model years and configurations of the Model 700 and Model 870, along with older rolling-block rifles, see more sustained collector interest than typical later production.

Model 1911

An early semi-automatic shotgun design, notable as one of the first successful autoloading shotguns.
